Escaan International School News
Year 2 – Pushes, pulls and twists.
Year 2 began their new Science topic, Forces and Movement. The children enjoyed playing with toys and exploring forces of pushing , pulling and twisting. We ended the lesson with a car race! The boys won!
Year 1 Design and Technology
Year 1 have been looking at ´Playgrounds´for Design Technology.
The children used their prior knowledge of ´materials´ to create a design for a playground and described which materials would be best to use and why.
Once the children completed their designs, labeled which materials they will use and explained where they would need to make it strong they had a go a making it out of various class room resources.
They have had lots of fun experimenting with their designs!
Year 3 Science – Plants need sunlight to grow
In Science we have been investigating how plants grow well. We planted bean seeds and investigated how the location would affect their growth.
Finn and her plant are looking a little sad because it was growing in the cupboard where there was no sunlight. Alvaro, Julio, Kuba and their plant are ok as the plant was in the classroom where it could easily access some sunlight. Joel and his plant are looking very happy and healthy because the plant was growing on on the nice warm windowsill in the sun. The poor seeds in the freezer did not grow at all because it was too cold and had no sunlight.
TOK Presentations in Year 12
Y12 students have started with another round of TOK presentations addressing the TOK matters like: beliefs, judgment, emotions, ethics, etc.
These presentations, together with all other work done in TOK helps our students in developing their critical thinking, understanding why knowledge is important and how is knowledge from different areas connected.
They are also developing skills that help them understanding the methods that lie behind each area of knowledge which will help them in their future University studies.
Well done Y12!
Year 6 Back to School – Summer Term Here We Go
A short week after a much needed break!
In art we’re looking at drawing the human body – in proportion and showing movement. (It’s not as easy as they thought!) But there was a noticeable improvement.
In English the children are just finishing writing “short Stories”. “Short!?” they say. They’ve never written so much in their lives yet. Another thing that shows great improvement. Let’s hope they remember all these techniques!
Well done!!
Year 5 PSHE / Changes
Children are discussing changes in their lives from the little changes to new lives: moving countries, meeting new friends, getting older, etc.
