Escaan Students have talent
Ilya from Year 11, has been competing in speedcubing for over 2 years. He entered the Rubikaz Open last year and came 3rd in the final with a record of 11.77s. Click here to see his demonstration. He is also capable to solve the cube using one hand click this link to view the video.
Escaan International School – University Day
On Friday 15th of February, ESCAAN International School of Barcelona will be organizing its third University day.
The event will welcome schools from the Garraf area in order to give Pre-University students the opportunity to get information about Higher Education.
Spanish and International Universities will be presented (state and private). The participants which are confirmed so far are: Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Universitat Internacional de Catalunya, Universidad de Navarra, European University, ESADE, Escola Superior de Disseny i Enginyeria de Barcelona (ELISAVA), La Salle, Institut Químic de Sarrià, Turismo Sant Ignasi (TSI), Les Roches-International University of Hotel Management, ESERP Business School, ESEC Toulouse Business School, ESEI International Business School, TU Delft, Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS), among many others.
All Pre-University students from Garraf area will be able to get more information on admission procedures and follow their presentations to familiarize themselves with different campuses and degrees on offer.
The event has been very successful previously and students have found it both interesting and useful for their futures. We expect this year´s event to be just as rewarding for the participants.

Se inaugura en Escaan una nueva escuela de música
El próximo miércoles 10 de octubre a las 17:00 en la Sala de Actos del ESCAAN School se presentará la nueva Escuela de Música “Jaques-Dalcroze” de Sitges, dirigida por Pablo Cernik, pianista y acreditado profesor del método “Rítmica -Dalcroze”.
La “Rítmica Dalcroze” es una metodología que nació hace más de un siglo y aún sigue siendo innovadora en el campo de la educación musical. Su creador, el compositor suizo Émile Jaques-Dalcroze, propuso un aprendizaje de la música
El director de la nueva escuela, Pablo Cernik, lleva más de ocho años dedicado a la enseñanza de la música, estudió piano y “Rítmica Dalcroze” en el Conservatorio Nacional de Música de Buenos Aires y posteriormente se perfeccionó en el Instituto Dalcroze de Ginebra. El profesor Cernik reside en Sitges desde hace tres años y colabora de forma habitual con diferentes escuelas de Barcelona además de formar a profesores en su carrera de educadores musicales en el Centro Superior de Música del País Vasco “Musikene” en San Sebastián.
La nueva escuela estará ubicada en las instalaciones del ESCAAN en Vallpineda. La práctica y el estudio del lenguaje musical, necesarios para poder tocar un instrumento, se realizan en las clases grupales de rítmica y de coro. En cambio las clases de instrumento son individualizadas o en parejas.
Una de las ventajas del método “Dalcroze” es que se observa una rápida evolución de los niños, aprenden música de forma más profunda, porque la han experimentado y vivido con su propio cuerpo. El lenguaje musical, la teoría y el solfeo se aprenden con el movimiento del cuerpo “La música tiene que aprenderse escuchando e interpretando, yo escucho, luego yo canto, yo hago y me muevo con el ritmo. Finalmente leo el ritmo porque ya lo he vivido” afirma el profesor Cernik.
Aunque siempre es mejor aprender de niño, igual que sucede con los idiomas cuanto más joven es el estudiante más flexible y más rápido aprende, nunca está de más estudiar, saber música y conocer el arte y el ambiente, artístico por este motivo la Escuela de Música de Sitges “Jaques-Dalcroze” espera ampliar en breve sus clases a jóvenes y adultos.

Visiting lecturer from ESEC Toulouse Business School presenting a business case study in ESCAAN
On Monday, 19th of December ESCAAN International School welcomed the university professor, Mr. Jeffrey Breyer from ESEC Toulouse Business School (Barcelona Campus) who presented a business case study to Y11, Y12 and Y13 business students.
The presentation was held in ESCAAN’s library and all students took an active role and joined the discussion that was opened after the presentation.
This is a wonderful way of learning and ESCAAN is thankful to ESEC for giving us the opportunity to listen to a lecturer of a university caliber.
We would like to thank to Ms. Margarita Servera and Ms. Anna Pardos from ESEC Public Relations department and to Mr. Jeffrey Breyer, a professor at ESEC.

Geography visit to the Ebro Delta

On a very cold and sunny dry day, on the 14th December, Years 10, 11, and 12 visited the Ebro Delta. It is one of the world’s most important wetlands and is on the Western Mediterranean stretching for 320 square km and is second only to the Donana National Park.
The students enjoyed a boat trip down the Ebro River to the Mediterranean witnessing the wildlife habitat of the river, and the many typical birds that feature there. They went on to see the salt flatlands, flamingo breeding sanctuary, observing certain details of the river that they have studied in Geography lessons, for example, deposition Spits and Tombola’s at the Punta de la Banya, and the irrigation of agricultural land.
The Delta landscape is quite unique in that it is completely flat, with rice fields stretching into the horizon. It was a lesson in itself realising that some 50,000 people coexist with the wildlife, at the same time as developing large-scale agricultural land.
