Year 2

Year 2 Corporal Expression – Dancing Activities

This 3rd term lessons we are working on Corporal Expression activities. Today they were trying basic steps from very different types of dance: classical and modern dances. For classical, we watched a video doing “pirouettes” and students were doing pretty well. For modern dance, we watched a feet dance (Shuffle) were students tried the “Running Man step” and a hand dance (Tecktonik) were students could dance with their arms and hands. Great time!

Sander Returns

Year 2 were super excited on Friday 3rd May due to our old classmate Sander Holtzer returning to spend the day at Escaan. Sander was a popular member of Year 2 and the children were upset when he left. Not a day has gone past without someone mentioning his name in class. Year 2 made him a card and presented it to him in assembly. Thanks for the visit Sander, we will always remember the fun we had in year 2 together!

TY and Year 2 enjoy the book fair

TY and Year 2 were spoilt for choice at the book fair on Friday! Everyone had fun looking at the books and sharing their choices with everyone when we returned to class.

Year 2 – Pushes, Pulls and Twists

After learning about the forces of push, pull and twist in science, Year 2 explored patio to see where these forces are used. Within minutes of exploring they noticed that they were absolutely surrounded by objects where these forces are applied!

We PUSHED the door closed, button for water, friends down the slide and playground equipment to move it.

We PULLED the door open and our bodies up different play equipment.

We TWISTED the door handle to open it and play equipment to spin.

Year 2 – Pushes, pulls and twists.

Year 2 began their new Science topic, Forces and Movement. The children enjoyed playing with toys and exploring forces of pushing , pulling and twisting. We ended the lesson with a car race! The boys won!

Year 2 investigate Forces and Movement

Year 2 have been working on their science topic ´forces and movement´. We discussed ramps, hills, roads etc and talked about what happens to vehicles and people when they go up or down hill. We talked about the steepness of ramps and predicted what would happen if we changed the gradient. We then went outside and discussed the speed we went down the slide, what we could do to go faster and how we could add friction to go slower down the slide. We had a great time flying down the slide!

Thanks

Lets find out about Joan Miro

Year 2 have been finding out about the life of Joan Miro. We looked at a timeline of his life, dicussed the most important parts and had a look at some of his work. We then made a timeline of his life in our jotters and added information from memory to it. We now know lots about him and his life! ;)
