Autor Year 8 have worked on daily routine. Now they can describe their routine using reflexive verbs and the time. They produced a “guirlande” that we hanged in the classroom.
Year 8 – Presentacion oral
Presentación oral por grupos sobre el texto expositivo. Los estudiante presentaron sus exposiciones sobre diferentes temas: recetas de cocina, tipos de exposición… Un grupo presentó “Cómo se hacen las magdalenas”, al finalizar la exposición pudimos degustar una magdalena. ¡Estaban deliciosas!

Maths Measures
Year 8 have recently been exploring units of measurement and converting between units. Today they estimated lengths, areas, masses and capacity and then measured the various items in order to test their estimates. They will continue working on reading scales and understanding how to make good estimates. A great start to the term Year 8, well done.
Year 8 Bottle Cap Collection
Recently Year 8 have decided to help a local charity as well as cleaning up the environment by collecting bottle caps to be recycled. They have worked hard at creating posters and providing collection points as well as informing students throughout the school to start collecting and bringing the bottle caps to school. We encourage you again to remember to bring your bottle caps to school and put them in the collection bottles.

Se inaugura en Escaan una nueva escuela de música
El próximo miércoles 10 de octubre a las 17:00 en la Sala de Actos del ESCAAN School se presentará la nueva Escuela de Música “Jaques-Dalcroze” de Sitges, dirigida por Pablo Cernik, pianista y acreditado profesor del método “Rítmica -Dalcroze”.
La “Rítmica Dalcroze” es una metodología que nació hace más de un siglo y aún sigue siendo innovadora en el campo de la educación musical. Su creador, el compositor suizo Émile Jaques-Dalcroze, propuso un aprendizaje de la música
El director de la nueva escuela, Pablo Cernik, lleva más de ocho años dedicado a la enseñanza de la música, estudió piano y “Rítmica Dalcroze” en el Conservatorio Nacional de Música de Buenos Aires y posteriormente se perfeccionó en el Instituto Dalcroze de Ginebra. El profesor Cernik reside en Sitges desde hace tres años y colabora de forma habitual con diferentes escuelas de Barcelona además de formar a profesores en su carrera de educadores musicales en el Centro Superior de Música del País Vasco “Musikene” en San Sebastián.
La nueva escuela estará ubicada en las instalaciones del ESCAAN en Vallpineda. La práctica y el estudio del lenguaje musical, necesarios para poder tocar un instrumento, se realizan en las clases grupales de rítmica y de coro. En cambio las clases de instrumento son individualizadas o en parejas.
Una de las ventajas del método “Dalcroze” es que se observa una rápida evolución de los niños, aprenden música de forma más profunda, porque la han experimentado y vivido con su propio cuerpo. El lenguaje musical, la teoría y el solfeo se aprenden con el movimiento del cuerpo “La música tiene que aprenderse escuchando e interpretando, yo escucho, luego yo canto, yo hago y me muevo con el ritmo. Finalmente leo el ritmo porque ya lo he vivido” afirma el profesor Cernik.
Aunque siempre es mejor aprender de niño, igual que sucede con los idiomas cuanto más joven es el estudiante más flexible y más rápido aprende, nunca está de más estudiar, saber música y conocer el arte y el ambiente, artístico por este motivo la Escuela de Música de Sitges “Jaques-Dalcroze” espera ampliar en breve sus clases a jóvenes y adultos.

Year 4 Maths Day!
During Maths day children worked extremely hard with the year 10s looking at times tables, angles and shapes. After the session some children felt confident they were ready to take on year 10 – Emma in year 4 shouts… “Mr Padden! I´m smarter than her!”
Children also learnt about plotting co-ordinates and used them to create alien masks…

Year 8 Mathematics
Year 8 Real life Maths in Sitges.
This week in maths Year 8 went into the centre of Sitges for our maths. We began by discussing the properties of shapes and where we see shapes in real life. We considered why cylinders are used as plant pots, why traffic signs are different shapes, why some parking spaces are shaped as rectangles and others are parallelograms.
Students were asked to consider how much the stone Sitges sign cost and measured the dimensions in order to use the data to calculate the price when we were back in school. We also used the motion detectors to record the speed of the traffic coming into and out of Sitges so we can analyze the data to find the average, range and consider the distribution of speeds.
Finally the students asked the public questionnaires they had designed to test the hypothesis that women do more exercise than men. Next week we will be analyzing and interpreting the data to be able to draw conclusions.
