Autor What a busy week!
We’ve been busy on art to redo displays. We put up the faces we drew last week – and they came out really quite well. We looked at the waterfalls of Hokusai and in two’s or three’s did our own. Again some lovely results.
In Englsh comprehension turned to poetry – and this was really hard. The biggest probem is the vocabulary at this stage, and working out what it means when there are not clear senences. This proved a real challenge. More pictures were done here to illustrate one of the comprehensions. They were really interesting. Now we have started on the writng stories.
Anyway, the children always enjoy having their parents into the classroom and showing off what we can do. It was good to see you. Thank you for coming.
Year 3 – Detailed Drawing
It is wonderful to see many students in Year 3 taking a lot more pride in their work. This is especially noticeable in the care and attention to detail they are displaying when drawing. We have been discussing settlers in Sitges in topic work, and in literacy we have been writing book reviews. Patricia, Kuba, Elisabeth, Julio and Finn have taken the time to draw some detailed pictures to accompany their work. Ms Bullemor
Year 6
This week we have been trying to draw people moving. What an improvement! Proportions are still a bit of a problem, but that’s been improving too. Legs are getting longer as they should. The progress is visible.
In Maths we have been revisiting proportion and ratio. It seems easy enough in class, but when we have to recall it, it’s amazing how we forget or get confused. We really need to make sure we know it well.
Year 13 Visual Arts Exposition
Y13 students have made the exposition of all the work and artistic pieces they have been working on during the 2 years visual arts course. The exposition was visited by their parents, friend and classmates. Everyone has enjoyed the presentations and have encouraged our young artists to continue with their good work.
Se inaugura en Escaan una nueva escuela de música
El próximo miércoles 10 de octubre a las 17:00 en la Sala de Actos del ESCAAN School se presentará la nueva Escuela de Música “Jaques-Dalcroze” de Sitges, dirigida por Pablo Cernik, pianista y acreditado profesor del método “Rítmica -Dalcroze”.
La “Rítmica Dalcroze” es una metodología que nació hace más de un siglo y aún sigue siendo innovadora en el campo de la educación musical. Su creador, el compositor suizo Émile Jaques-Dalcroze, propuso un aprendizaje de la música
El director de la nueva escuela, Pablo Cernik, lleva más de ocho años dedicado a la enseñanza de la música, estudió piano y “Rítmica Dalcroze” en el Conservatorio Nacional de Música de Buenos Aires y posteriormente se perfeccionó en el Instituto Dalcroze de Ginebra. El profesor Cernik reside en Sitges desde hace tres años y colabora de forma habitual con diferentes escuelas de Barcelona además de formar a profesores en su carrera de educadores musicales en el Centro Superior de Música del País Vasco “Musikene” en San Sebastián.
La nueva escuela estará ubicada en las instalaciones del ESCAAN en Vallpineda. La práctica y el estudio del lenguaje musical, necesarios para poder tocar un instrumento, se realizan en las clases grupales de rítmica y de coro. En cambio las clases de instrumento son individualizadas o en parejas.
Una de las ventajas del método “Dalcroze” es que se observa una rápida evolución de los niños, aprenden música de forma más profunda, porque la han experimentado y vivido con su propio cuerpo. El lenguaje musical, la teoría y el solfeo se aprenden con el movimiento del cuerpo “La música tiene que aprenderse escuchando e interpretando, yo escucho, luego yo canto, yo hago y me muevo con el ritmo. Finalmente leo el ritmo porque ya lo he vivido” afirma el profesor Cernik.
Aunque siempre es mejor aprender de niño, igual que sucede con los idiomas cuanto más joven es el estudiante más flexible y más rápido aprende, nunca está de más estudiar, saber música y conocer el arte y el ambiente, artístico por este motivo la Escuela de Música de Sitges “Jaques-Dalcroze” espera ampliar en breve sus clases a jóvenes y adultos.

Year 2 get arty
Year 2 have been recreating and designing their own Miro pictures. We painted on the bright blocks of bold color first and then added the black lines in with oil pastel once the paint was dry. Don´t they look great!

Blog entry for TY
TY really enjoyed World Maths Day and learnt lots of new things – tessellation and symmetry to name a couple. The children particularly enjoyed creating posters for them to use in class to help them to think of different ways of saying addition, subtraction and equals. These should help them when they’re being tested by me in future!!

Alien invasion!
Year 7′s aliens are invading the reception area of our school these days.
The students have created these sculptures of paper mâché and later on painted them!

Y6 – On Leap year day!
It’s an unusual date and I told the class that in UK this is the day when traditionally the ladies can ask the gentleman to marry them. This bothered a couple of the boys but they were relieved to hear they don’t have to say, “yes.”!
We started drawing the human body in movement. Getting the proprtions right has proved to be harder than expected but great improvements have been made – legs have grown longer!!.

Metamorphosis in Drama
Last week we started a new unit of study based on Stephen Berkoff’s theatrical adaptation of Franz Kafka’s masterpiece Metamorphosis.
In the photos we can see how the girls have started exploring the theme of transforming into an insect, the main character’s predicament.
This work will lead us into exploring the key facets of Berkoff’s Total Theatre, where the actor’s physicality is essential to the portrayal of the characters and the atmosphere of the play.
Well done girls, great work so far!
