League of Pre-University debates at ESADE
On April 16th, selected Y12 students took part in pre-University debate contest at ESADE which is traditionally organized twice a year. Even though during 4 hours of heated debates our students have not managed to arrive to the finals they have efficiently improved their knowledge on the rules of debating, gained more experience in debates and also met some students of their age from other schools from Barcelona. As we can all
agree: ” the important it is not to win , it is to participate”. These kinds of experiences are highly appreciated by Universities at the time of choosing between applicants, therefore the Certificate awarded to each student has an exceptional value for their future studies.

At Campus Barcelona, in buildings Gama and Delta, students were attending the University lecture on Early Years and primary education 3. At Campus Barcelona, in buildings Alfa and Beta, students were attending the University lecture on ADE; Journalism and Marketing as well as Politics. We are very grateful to UIC for giving us the opportunity to come for a visit!
Year 12 IB Chemistry
Year 12′s IB chemistry students carried out the past 14th of January a practical chemistry experiment on the effects of different salts to flame color. The students collected a number of different salts and proceeded to burn them with the bunsen burners, noting how different salts produced different colored flames when burnt. This characteristic salts and its effects are used in, amongst other things, fireworks. This practical work will have helped the students with their topic “The atomic structure”

Year 12 Quadratic Modelling and Optimisation
Year 12 have been using their graphical calculators to model the path a basketball takes as it is thrown into the hoop. They predicted the quadratic equation and then using their knowledge from the chapter they amended the equation to model the path. They could then find the height it reached from the ground and the distance from the person when it hit the ground, amongst other things. Following this they looked at optimising the area of a garden by consider what the width and the length of the fence should be and developing a quadratic equation to solve in order to maximise the area.
