Estimating in ECU3
Today in ECU3 we have tried to estimate how many times we could bounce and catch a ball in a minute, at the beginning it was quite difficult but in the end I think most of us understood the ‘estimating’ concept.

Year 3´s busy week
This week Year 3 has been looking at playscripts. The students had fun acting out various plays and were given the challenge to change some traditional stories into playscripts. In Numeracy, we have been multiplying 2 digit numbers. At the start of the week many were a little nervous approaching these equations but by Friday they were eager to complete these independently.
Well done Year 3! In Science, we completed our final investigation with plants. We put the stem of celery in a jar of water with blue food colouring and left it to sit for 1 day. The next day we observed the celery leaves were turning blue. When we cut it into pieces, we discovered small veins, like in our bodies, that carried the blue water up the stem to the leaves.
Congratulations to Maria, Patricia and Ania for receiving certificates in assembly today. Also, congratulations Year 3 for receiving the best line certificate for the 2nd time! Keep up the terrific work!
Year 5 Maths
This week, Year 5 has been exploring the world of shape! We built 3-d shapes to calculate the volume, we had a lot of fun building interesting shapes and using our written methods to complete our work.
Probability in Year 7 Maths
Our current topic in year 7 maths is probability and the students have been comparing theoretical probabilities with experimental probabilities in maths today.
Year 6 doing FUN Maths
Another short week! But we have done some fun Maths – drawing 3D shapes and working out surface areas. Miss Trillo was really interested they used the special isometric paper to do it nicely. (They had to do on normal paper when she did it at school.) Anyway, it was good to do and everone managed to draw it correctly – finding the surface areas wasn’t quite 100% but still quite good. Well done y6.
Where will teddy sit now?
This week in ECU3 we have been looking at postional language, by using a large dice with directions of where to place teddy, on the chair, beside the chair, in front of the chair etc. We had lots of fun and everyone waited while we took turns.

Year 2 learning how to read the time
Year 2 had loads of fun learning about the time with Miss Mcwilliams. We used interactive clocks to learn about o´clock and half past in Maths lessons.

Year 12 Mathematical Functions
Year 12 have been studying functions in maths recently; with a big emphasis on quadratics. They have considered graphing quadratics, transformations and modelling real life problems. In order to develop their skills using the graphical calculators, they had to restrict the domain and range of functions to draw ‘emotions’ using technology. Well done year 12.
Year 9 Mathematics
Year 9 have started the new term playing the maths games they designed over the summer for their holiday homework. The purpose of the game was to test the material studied in Year 8 and there were some imaginative ideas. These are now on display in the maths room. Well done Year 9.
