Y6 And we finished with open day – so some of you have been to visit.
What a busy week!
We’ve been busy on art to redo displays. We put up the faces we drew last week – and they came out really quite well. We looked at the waterfalls of Hokusai and in two’s or three’s did our own. Again some lovely results.
In Englsh comprehension turned to poetry – and this was really hard. The biggest probem is the vocabulary at this stage, and working out what it means when there are not clear senences. This proved a real challenge. More pictures were done here to illustrate one of the comprehensions. They were really interesting. Now we have started on the writng stories.
Anyway, the children always enjoy having their parents into the classroom and showing off what we can do. It was good to see you. Thank you for coming.
On Top of the World by Year 5 and & Music
Year 5 and 6 have been singing beautifully in music. They have been practicing “On Top of the World” by Imagine Dragons for the past few weeks and here is the result of all their hard work. Well done year 5 and 6, watch out for their future success!
Year 6 revising Science making Mothers’ Day cards
An interrupted week this, but always good to have a fiesta – if you can use it as such! We have done some comprehension a level a bit higher again from before. It’s not as easy as they thought but they will get there. We ended the week beautifully with a couple of weekend birthdays, and drawing cards for Mothers’ Day. They enjoyed that and did it with care.
Year 6 – A short week but lots to do
It’s been a short week but it’s filled as ever. In Art we have been looking at drawing faces. It’s not easy, but getting the proportions right certainly helps. We’ll have a try another time. We’ve also been writing letters very informal to informal to formal. Next week we start on revision of comprehension. There will be a lot of work from past papers now. It’s all good practice.
Year 6
This week we have been trying to draw people moving. What an improvement! Proportions are still a bit of a problem, but that’s been improving too. Legs are getting longer as they should. The progress is visible.
In Maths we have been revisiting proportion and ratio. It seems easy enough in class, but when we have to recall it, it’s amazing how we forget or get confused. We really need to make sure we know it well.
Year 6 Back to School – Summer Term Here We Go
A short week after a much needed break!
In art we’re looking at drawing the human body – in proportion and showing movement. (It’s not as easy as they thought!) But there was a noticeable improvement.
In English the children are just finishing writing “short Stories”. “Short!?” they say. They’ve never written so much in their lives yet. Another thing that shows great improvement. Let’s hope they remember all these techniques!
Well done!!
Year 6 and the end of term
Another hectic week but it’s the end of term!!
This week the chidren started writing their own quest stories – over 5 lessons! They have now done the first 3 parts and so far some of the results show a fantastic improvement in writing. Some really great stuff. Well done Y6 !! Please keep it up!!
The photos show y6 working with y3 making the boxes for Easter eggs, and they all did some lovely work. Technically, of course it was a Maths lesson in making nets, but it’s always fun to decorate these things and get the creative juices buzzing. (We also saw the chairs y3 made – really imaginative and super work y3!)
Tomorrow is sports day! Have a great day everyone – and a really good holiday.
Year 6 doing FUN Maths
Another short week! But we have done some fun Maths – drawing 3D shapes and working out surface areas. Miss Trillo was really interested they used the special isometric paper to do it nicely. (They had to do on normal paper when she did it at school.) Anyway, it was good to do and everone managed to draw it correctly – finding the surface areas wasn’t quite 100% but still quite good. Well done y6.
Year 6 Exams and Trip
It’s been exam week – not that it was as intense as other terms. So it has been a heavy week but we ennded really nicely with a trip to the Maritime Museum.
WE went with y4 and y5 and hada workshop on maps which was interesting. We then went to look a a sailing ship in the old port – still part of the museum visit. The sun shone and we had a lovely warm day after the rain of earlier in the week. A lovely end to the week!
We’re back! January 2013 so y6 and term 2
Yes, we’re back – two days in and everone has returned with a really good attitude. Well done everyone for that – it’s a great start to the term. We have some new text books and the Maths ones seem to be really quite popular. We have also looked at warm and cool colours and talked about how they can be used.
So, here’s to the new term and the new year – may it be a good year for everyone.
